Taxi Driver - Review

For the old film buffs who grew up watching the great Roger Ebert and going to the cinema for only 25 cents, the quality of this film directed by the god Martin Scorsese is no surprise or hidden gem. But to the new generation of film nerds who have been spoiled with a huge abundance of films and television as internet streaming becomes more prominent, this film Taxi Driver will inspire and blow their socks off.  The director allows us to live in the presence of the main character Travis who is a young honorably discharged Vietnam war veteran who lives in New York. New York in this film is depicted as filthy, sick and filled with sin. Martin intelligently explores new york through Travis's job as a taxi driver. We see the pimps and the whores working on the street. Travis frequently goes to the cinema to watch porn and seems intrigued by it so much that he brings a date there which goes horrible once the film begins. Travis notices the city is in a disgusting state and begins to take matters in his own hands.  The film begins to take a dark and bloody turn. Robert De Niro's performance is uncanny. I can explain the film more to you or you can hop your butt on Netflix and watch it for free.
